Marielle is a second year student at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. She is pursuing a Master’s of City and Regional Planning, with a concentration in economic development.
Originally from Michigan, Marielle graduated from the University of Michigan in 2016. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in History, with minors in Urban Studies and Sustainability. She worked in Indianapolis first as an AmeriCorps VISTA in workforce development, and then as a Program Assistant for LISC’s economic development team. At LISC she co-managed the national program with Kiva, a crowdfunding and microlending platform designed to expand access to capital for small businesses.
After graduation, Marielle seeks to support the creation of equitable economic development strategies. This might involve expanding access to capital and contract opportunities for diverse businesses or pursuing place-based strategies to transform communities. Outside of work and school, Marielle loves to swim, hike and try new food.
